i like eventful.
it started with thanksgiving.
this was my first thanksgiving away from my family.
potential for great sadness.
however, some international friends got together to create a bountiful feast!
there were only 3 americans at this dinner of around 15,
but everyone attempted traditional american dishes.
some were....interesting,
but all were made with a lot of love.
times like these make me appreciate how people from other cultures
can branch out and try something completely different from their own.
friday my program treated the llm students to dinner
to mix and mingle with those in charge.
this started at 7pm, which in french time means we started eating around 8pm.
i was anxious because my wonderful roommate margot
gave me a ticket to arcade fire for my birthday.
she was already there.
i mixed and mingled quickly and scooted on over to the concert
with some classmates.
we didn't exactly know where to go,
but while i was looking at a metro map, some guys said 'excuse me'
in english.
they told us to follow them because they were going to the concert too!
on the way to and after the concert i heard sooo much english.
lyon is not a typical tourist town, and aside from study abroad students,
i don't hear a lot of native english speakers out and about.
my sub-par ability to speak french sometimes makes it difficult
to meet new people and make friends.
(as you know i am extremely extroverted, so this for me is the most challenging part of living here)
there is a special connection you feel with other english speakers,
but many look french so you never know who they are.
i considered making an informative t-shirt.
robin suggested singing really loud in english while walking through town :)
anyway, the concert was fantastic!!
my body is a cage on neon bible is my favorite song they sing.
they played it!
after the concert, i met up with my friend who was also at the concert
and some new italian friends.
the italian friends invited us to dinner the next night.
my friend couldn't go, but i went.
you can't really go wrong with italian dinner made by italian people.
it was wonderful.
we sat around the table and talked about politics and social issues.
i absolutely love gaining new perspective about important topics.
i thoroughly enjoyed my weekend :)
