tossing coins and flipping crepes

as i mentioned before, feb. 2nd was la chandeleur
otherwise known as crepe day
according to wiki, la chandeleur was originally a pagan holiday that christians adopted and changed into a religious celebration.

it was originally celebrated by the romans to honor lupercus, god of fertility and flocks, and by the celts to honor the goddess brigid so she will purify and protect the livestock, and increase its fertility.
apparently they made crepes out of the leftover wheat from winter planting.

the christian celebration of la chandeleur focuses on christ as the light of the world, the presentation of jesus in the temple, and the purification of mary.
the crepes symbolize prosperity for the coming year.

if you are able to flip and catch a crepe with one hand, and flip and catch a coin with the other hand, then you will have good luck for the next year.
i caught the crepe but dropped the coin....it was fun :)
we had sweet crepes...jam, chocolate, honey, and powdered sugar
they were so good!
